NewRegisterHouseThe Royal Celtic Society is to launch a new programme of lunchtime lectures in Edinburgh.

The first of these will take place in the Dome Room at New Register House, West Register Street, at 1.00 pm on Friday 16th February.  The speaker will be Professor Robert Dunbar and his subject is, "Celtic and Scottish Studies in teh 21st Century: a Personal Reflection."

The Chair of Celtic at the University of Edinburgh - the first of its kind in Scotland - was established in 1882, and the School of Studies was opened by the university in 1951.  In this lecture, Professor Dunbar, the current Chair of Celtic at the university, will reflect on the history of Celtic and Scottish studies at Edinburgh, focusing particularly on the contribution of these disciplines to Gaelic languate, literature and culture.  He will explore not only the ways in which that contribution has changed over the years, but also on some of the many important continuities.

This lecture is free of charge to members of the Royal Celtic Society and will cost a very reasonable £5.00 to non-members, with students, OAPs and the unwaged at £2.00.  All are welcome.
