by Sir Iain Fraser

Romilly SquireThe Society was saddened to learn of the death of Romilly Squire on December 7th 2016, after a short illness.

Romilly was  well known heraldic consulant, author and actor, and a wonderful wit, raconteur and bon viveur - very good company at a social occasion.  Among many offices, Romilly was Secretary to the Standing Council of Scottish Clan Chiefs, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Society of Antiquaries, and a former Chairman of the Heraldry Society of Scotland.

In his earlier yers, he was a keen sportsman, fourth Dan Kendo, and a teacher of Japanese martial arts.

One of his main claims to fame, or notoriety, ws his opposition to fake titles, orders of chivalry and coats of arms; he was a leading critic of a seemingly bogus Coat of Arms which Donald Trump used in themid 2000s when designing his famous golf course at Menie, north of Aberdeen.

He will be sorely missed by friends and family alike.
