Banchor CemeteryA final reminder of the Royal Celtic Society's family day out to Newtonmore in Inverness-shire, next Sunday 10th July.

The event will begin at the award winning Highland Folk Park, which opens its doors at 10.30 am.  This is the oldest open air museum in the United Kingdom, opened in 1936, giving a unique insight into what a 18th/19th century Highland community was like, with reconstructions of houses and crofts.  Members will gather for coffee at the Clan Macpherson Museum at the opposite end of the village at midday.  We will be given a guided tour of the museum, which the Society has supported for many years with an annual grant.

Lunch follows, kindly provided by council member Angus Macpherson of Biallid and his wife Valerie at their home on the village outskirts.  We will then explore the Coffin Road, the ancient route between the old Speyside communities of the area and the old cemetery at Banchor, itself situated on the site of one of the earliest Christian cells in Scotland.  The Royal Celtic Society funded new signage for the Coffin Road in 2014.
