The Royal Celtic Society’s next members’ event will be our Spring Lunch at the New Club in Edinburgh’s Princes Street.
The event is open to all members and their guests and represents excellent value at £29.50 per head, including drinks.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Kristin Lindfield-Ott, of Highlands and Islands University, as our guest speaker. Kristin will give an illustrated talk on her research into James Macpherson, the controversial author of the Ossian poems, who rose to fame in 1760 with the publication of Fragments of Ancient Poetry Collected in the Highlands of Scotland, swiftly followed by Fingal the following year and Temora in 1763. She will focus particularly on Macpherson’s early life and works, his Edinburgh connections and the Celtic world he explored through his Ossianic Collections and his later work, An Introduction to the History of Great Britain. Together, we will explore first editions of his work and there will be plenty of time for discussion afterwards.
We are grateful to council member Sir Iain Fraser, who has arranged this event.
