For nearly 200 years, the Royal Celtic Society has been at the cutting edge of activity to support the language, literature, music and culture of the Highlands and Western Islands of Scotland. The Society holds regular events for members, awards medals for excellence in music and literature and sponsors a wide range of organisations dedicated to the traditions, language and arts of the Highlands and Islands.

The Royal Celtic Society is delighted to announce that it will sponsor part of Edinburgh University's conference on the Ulster Cycle and Finn Cycle next month in Skye.

The conference, formally titled Ulidia VI Fianaigecht III takes place at Sabhal Mor Ostaig.  The Society will sponsor the production of Bas Chonlaoich (the Death of Conlaoch), a dramatic performance of one of Scotland's greatest Gaelic heroic ballads.

The Society will further supply four bursaries to enable postgraduate students with limited incomes to attend the conference.  We are delighted to be sharing this part of the sponsorship with the Skye Gaelic Trust, which was founded by our former president, the late Sir Iain Noble of Ardkinglas.

This production of Bas Chonlaoich will goon to play a central role in the programme for the Scottish International Storytelling Conference at Edinburgh's Netherbow Theatre in October.
